September 30,2022 | Freetown, Sierra Leone

Allies in Development (AiD) participated in the Third Quarter Civil Society Partnership Coordination Dialogue convened by the Ministry of Social Welfare in collaboration with the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MoPED).

The coordination meeting brought together civil society organizations partnering with the Ministry to review ongoing collaboration, share programme updates, and discuss priorities for strengthening coordination across the social welfare sector.

Strengthening Government–Civil Society Collaboration

The meeting provided an important platform for government and civil society partners to exchange information on current initiatives, improve coordination, and discuss administrative and policy developments affecting the work of non-governmental organizations.

Discussions, led by representatives from the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MoPED), covered several key areas, including:

  • Progress on the Service Level Agreement (SLA) process;
  • The new NGO mapping model;
  • Strengthening monitoring and reporting systems;
  • NGO verification processes coordinated through MoPED; and
  • Other updates relevant to government–civil society collaboration.

Supporting stronger coordination

Regular coordination meetings between government institutions and civil society organizations play an important role in promoting transparency, improving collaboration, and ensuring that development partners work in alignment with national priorities.

As a partner of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Allies in Development values these opportunities to contribute to sector-wide dialogue, remain informed about emerging policy developments, and strengthen collaboration with government and fellow civil society organizations.

AiD remains committed to working alongside government institutions and development partners to advance coordinated approaches that strengthen social welfare systems and improve protection outcomes for women, children, and vulnerable communities in Sierra Leone.
