School and Youth Club Program
Introduction
Launched in December 2022, the programme addresses school-related gender-based violence by building a network of student activists and delivering violence prevention education. The clubs also provide safe spaces for girls to share their experiences and build supportive communities.
Why school and youth clubs?
In 2019, President Dr. Julius Maada Bio noted that over 70% of survivors are girls aged 15 years and younger. Children are highly at risk of violence, particularly in school settings. We work in a context where there is very little violence prevention education among youth in Sierra Leone. Our programme equips boys and girls with the knowledge and skills to prevent and respond to sexual and gender-based violence, fostering safer learning environments.

How does it work?
We partner with schools to reach adolescents and youth. Currently, we are partners with five schools in Western Urban and Western Rural districts: International School Limited, Freetown Secondary School for Girls, Beacon High School, War Wounded Academy and Providence International High School. Teachers facilitate club activities, supported by practitioners and partners including the Sierra Leone Police-FSU and women’s rights activists
AiD After-school program
Launched in 2023, the program hosts youth community advocacy and collaborative projects and provides a platform for expressing views on violence against women and girls through art, writing, music, and public outreach.
